Beach Wheelchairs Seton Sands have a Hippocampe and a DeBug beach wheelchair available for free hire from the Leisure Team at Haven Seton Sands. This is a joint project between Haven, Beach Wheelchairs and East Lothian Council. The wheelchairs are not restricted to customers of Haven but should be booked in advance. There is no hoist at this location.
How to Book
Please phone Haven at Seton Sands on 01875 813333 and ask for the Leisure Team to book in advance. There is a blue badge parking bay in Haven Village. The Leisure Team are based at the swimming pool, past the reception desks. After picking up the beach wheelchair you will need to cross the roads at pedestrian crossing and walk the short distance further out of town to access the beach via the wooden picnic area and ramp.
Hippocampe
We have a Hippocampe wheelchair, a medium sized wheelchair suitable for children and small adults. The Hippocampe is low to the ground, so perfect for getting close to the sand and sea. However, the fixed front wheel may make it more difficult for some people. Our chair has an arm rest, leg rest, lap strap, chest harness and head rest.
DeBug
The deBug wheelchair is a manual wheelchair suitable for adults and larger children. The armrests move to the side to allow for a lateral transfer. The footplate can’t be moved or stood on to allow for transfer so it can be a wee bit trickier for some people. The wheelchair has a simple lapstrap and a simple, optional chest strap. The wheelchair moves well on the sand.
The access to the beach at Seton Sands
East Lothian Council built us a beautiful short boardwalk, viewing platform and ramped access point for the beach wheelchairs just a little bit further along from the Haven site. This has been planted up and maintained beautifully by the local Port Seton in Bloom group.
